ABLE, Inc., Milwaukee, WI - $40,000 for support of the Vision Planning Workshop project.  This distinctive collaborative will build an internet portal to expand access to services among visually impaired residents of the area.

ABLE, Inc., Milwaukee, WI - $1,500 for technical and facilitation support.

Alverno College, Milwaukee, WI - $5,000 for the Bonnie B. Cleary Memorial Endowed Scholarship.  This gift is in memory of Foundation co-founder Catherine Cleary. 

Alzheimer's Association of Southeastern Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI - $10,000 for support of Alzheimer’s Challenging Behaviors Task Force. Continuing upon work that was funded in 2008, Phase II will establish a strategy to care for individuals that are caught between nursing homes, hospitals and other facilities.

Aurora Sinai Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI - $50,000 in collaboration with the Bread of Healing clinic to improve access to health care for the uninsured, including a cooperative effort to share medications. An expansion of services is being supported by this grant.

Benedict Center, Milwaukee, WI - $20,000 for transition support to ensure a smooth transfer of responsibilities to the new executive director thus allowing core programs to continue without interruption.  This grant will also be used for basic human needs among program participants.

BoardStar Inc., Milwaukee, WI - $20,000 for program support. This member-focused organization sponsors programs for those serving on (or interested in) nonprofit Boards.

Bread of Healing Clinic, Inc., Milwaukee, WI - $50,000 for the Free and Community Clinic Collaborative helping uninsured adults obtain access to healthcare and improve access to essential prescription medications. 

Core/El Centro, Milwaukee, WI - $35,000 for a creative community-led effort to provide holistic health and wellness services, in coordination with two other organizational partners.

Donors Forum of Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI - $10,000 for program initiatives. This “Innovation Fund” will broaden the Forum’s membership, help underwrite startup costs for new services and expand educational offerings as part of the Forum’s recently completed strategic plan.

Donors Forum of Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI - $2,500 for the Annual Conference and Nonprofit attendance.

Family House Inc., Milwaukee, WI - $1,000 for consultant costs.

Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Milwaukee, WI - $60,000 for the Nonprofit Management Fund of Milwaukee, Ozaukee and Washington Counties. This fund, now in its 17th year, is a partnership involving over a dozen private funding partners, ranging from Bradley Foundation to United Way of Greater Milwaukee. 

Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Milwaukee, WI - $25,000 for the Camps for Kids Forever Fund. This fund enables 200-250 first-time campers from low income city of Milwaukee families to experience a summer camping adventure.

Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Milwaukee, WI - $50,000 for Teach for America-Milwaukee, supported through a funding partnership with Greater Milwaukee Foundation. Corps members (teachers) are particularly active at MPS and charter sites throughout Milwaukee.

Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Milwaukee, WI - $50,000 for the Basic Needs Fund, which will address both short and longer term challenges faced by community residents and nonprofit organizations in providing food, shelter, and other safety net services.  New this year is a “Match Day” concept, held on March 8, 2012.  This initiative expands the pool of donated funds for a group of designated nonprofits who seek to secure matching funds from the GMF-managed pool.

Hmong American Peace Academy, Milwaukee, WI - $25,000 for the Transition Academic Support project that provides students with “educational backpacks” to extend their school day to after school or home settings in an effort to extend learning for a student body that currently does not have a functional library or media center.

Hope House of Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI – $35,000 to extend “Protective Payee” services to persons with chronic mental illness living in the community. The grant will also support an evaluation study to determine the larger impact and potential for expansion.

House of Peace, Milwaukee, WI - $15,000 for Healthy Food Distribution project to test and refine the idea of distributing healthier food to those whose health challenges limit their diet. 

InHealth Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI - $15,000 for TeachingMinute. This on-demand training program for teachers provides informative materials to aid instruction on a variety of topics. A new partnership with UW-Milwaukee is supported through the grant.

Interfaith Older Adults Programs, Inc., Milwaukee, WI – $10,000 for enhanced business planning for ReServe Milwaukee. This program matches the talents of retired and semi-retired older adults (55 and over) with opportunities in area nonprofit agencies.

Lead2Change, Inc. , Milwaukee, WI – $35,000, a funding partnership with Greater Milwaukee Foundation for this youth-led organization that receives, reviews and selects youth-led community-service projects to authorize grants ranging from $50 - $2,500.

Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI - $15,000 for the Institute for the Transformation of Learning for the Summer Reading Project.  This effort, in its second year shows promise to both help 3rd and 4th graders learn to read, but also to demonstrate techniques that could possibly be used in other settings.

Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI - $1,600 for the Community Impact Journalism project.

Marquette University Law School, Milwaukee, WI - $1,850 for an evaluation of the Restorative Justice Program.

Meta House, Inc., Milwaukee, WI - $360 for transportation to the UnConvention Conference.

Milwaukee College Preparatory School, Milwaukee, WI - $40,000 to support the educational, capital and program initiatives as the campus expands to a third location.

Milwaukee Public Library Foundation, Milwaukee, WI - $35,000 for a further enhancement of the Milwaukee Public Library’s Summer Reading program, Milwaukee’s only citywide summer reading initiative. 

Milwaukee Public Schools Foundation, Inc., Milwaukee, WI - $20,000 was awarded for year two of a third-party evaluation of an expansion of Project Lead the Way. This is a multiyear effort to engage and improve teaching and learning in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) subjects in MPS middle and high schools.

Milwaukee Repertory Theater Inc., Milwaukee, WI – $30,000 for a city-wide literacy engagement program. Based on the classic novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, the “Big Read” will include a main stage performance, numerous school workshops and support for partners throughout the city. Additional focus will include vision and hearing-impaired audiences.

Milwaukee Urban Soccer Collaborative, Milwaukee, WI – $15,000 for the development of a recreational, semi-competitive Urban Soccer League.

NAMI Greater Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI - $360 for transportation to the UnConvention Conference.

Neighborhood House of Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI – $35,000 for support provided to the International Learning Center for a family literacy, educational and support project. This model project to delivers educational services to newly arrived refugees with a minimal waiting period.

Northwest Side Community Development Corp., Milwaukee, WI - $27,500 for the Villard Grand Family project, providing 47 units of housing for primarily multi-generational families; foundation support will help provide supportive services for residents and underwrite an evaluation of this first-in-Milwaukee effort.

Notre Dame Middle School, Inc., Milwaukee, WI - $25,000 as a reading initiative grant to this parental choice all-girls school serving Latinas in grades 5-8. This grant will focus on literacy, beginning with summer school and continuing
with coaching and special services throughout the year.

Partners Advancing Values in Education, Milwaukee, WI - $50,000 for the 2011 PAVE School Partner Program, which enables twelve private and charter schools to partner with PAVE to reach predetermined objectives in the individual PAVE-partner school agreements.

Planning Council for Health & Human Services, Milwaukee, WI - $30,000 to evaluate the MPS -Youth Agency Mental Health Partnership that will expand community and family services in 3 Milwaukee Public Schools.

Planning Council for Health & Human Services, Milwaukee, WI - $2,000 to update and maintain a working database.

Public Policy Forum, Milwaukee, WI - $40,000 for the Workforce Data and Mental Health Redesign Project.

Public Policy Forum, Milwaukee, WI - $2,500 for the Report Card on Charitable Giving and to assist in making revisions for future report card reports.

Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI - $35,000 total, $25,000 for the Emergency Housing program that provides rapid response emergency repair for elderly and/or disabled homeowners allowing these persons to remain in their home and $10,000 for a third party evaluation of the Housing Plus program to assess long-term impact.

Running Rebels Community Organization, Milwaukee, WI - $20,000 for the Violence Free Zone program.  This program, implemented in 6 MPS high schools has successfully reduced violent incidents and suspensions and has improved attendance, increased the time for instruction and modeled conflict resolution strategies.

Social Development Foundation, Inc., Milwaukee, WI - $15,000 for the Senior Companions Program that extends services to home-bound elders and provides a stipend for volunteers who visit elders in the home.

St. Marcus School, Milwaukee, WI - $50,000 for the College Prep Center, including both program support and funds to build a computer lab in the expanded school campus.     

United Way of Greater Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI – $50,000 in support for the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Collaborative Fund, which seeks the “evidence-based”
and promising ideas in the community as part of United Way’s initiative to reduce teen pregnancy among 15-17 year old girls in Milwaukee.

University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, College of Nursing, Milwaukee, WI – $20,000 for the Nurse Scholars in Residence program at the Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Complex.

Urban Day School, Milwaukee, WI – $1,500 to support the summer school program.

Vision Forward Association, Milwaukee, WI - $50,000 for the Vision Campaign that expands facilities, services and the reach of the newly-expanded organization.

Wisconsin Center for Nursing, Inc., Milwaukee, WI - $15,000 for capacity-building support for state implementation of the Institute on Medicine Report and possible WI formation of a Regional Action Coalition.
