Program Priorities:

The Foundation supports promising programs or established approaches promoting the welfare of children, particularly those living in poverty.

The top priority in the children's area is student achievement oriented education programs serving ages
1-13.

Specifically, the Foundation supports the following:

  • Improving or maintaining reading skills, year round;
  • Enhancing staff development benefiting public and private school recruitment, retention and instructional improvements;
  • Providing substantive enrichment programs that build student achievement in-school, before school, after school and during the summer;
  • Improving parent involvement and build family engagement in education, as well as family literacy;
  • Enhancing high-performing schools, both private and public. School enhancement will be implemented through grantmaking involving Foundation-identified schools.

Other priorities are:

  • Expanding opportunities for older adolescents through results-oriented programs that build upon youth talent and initiative in education, employment, community service and careers;
  • Building or renovating community playgrounds in Milwaukee; and
  • Strengthening parenting skills and resources for parents.
