The top priority in the children's area is results-oriented education programs serving ages 1-13.
Specifically, the Foundation supports the following:
- Improving or maintaining reading skills, year round;
- Enhancing staff development benefiting public and private
school recruitment, retention and instructional improvements;
- Providing substantive enrichment programs for both before and after school time periods - summer programs will also be considered;
- Improving parent involvement and build family engagement
in education, as well as family literacy;
- Enhancing high-performing schools, both private and public. Foundation interests in school enhancement will largely be implemented through a grantmaking program with Foundation-identified schools.
Other priorities are:
- Expanding opportunities for older adolescents through results-oriented programs that build upon youth talent and initiative in education, employment, community service and careers;
- Building or renovating community playgrounds in Milwaukee; and
- Strengthening parenting skills and resources for parents.
